Bass Guitars

Bass Guitars

We stock a few bass guitars, also called electric bass or simply bass. Played primarily with the fingers or thumb, by plucking, slapping, popping, strumming, tapping, thumping or picking.

The bass guitar is similar in appearance and construction to an electric guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and four, five or six strings. The four-string bass, by far the most common, is usually tuned the same as the double bass, which corresponds to pitches one octave lower than the four lowest pitched strings of a guitar (E, A, D, and G).

The bass guitar has pickups and needs to be connected to an amplifier, which makes a sound loud enough to hear. Use with JOYO guitar effects for bass will allow you to take your bass playing to another level. Check out our range of effect pedals designed with bass players in mind, from overdrive, fuzz, wah, chorus and delay.

Since the 1960s, the bass guitar is mainly used in the rhythm section. While types of bass lines vary widely from one style of music to another, the bassist usually plays a similar role, all integral to the overall sound, often key to the harmonic framework and establishing a funky beat.

Many styles of music include the bass guitar, including rock, heavy metal, pop, punk rock, country, reggae, gospel, blues, symphonic rock, and jazz. It is often a solo instrument in jazz, jazz fusion, Latin, funk, progressive rock and other rock and metal styles. artists like Mike Kerr (Royal Blood) have brought the bass to the foreground with their distinctive distorted bass lines now taking the lead. Some famous bass players include Paul McCartney, Lemmy (Motorhead), Peter Hook (Joy Division), John Entwistle (The Who), Geddy Lee (Rush), Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), John Mcvie (Fleetwood Mac),  Billy Sheehan (Vai/David Lee Roth) & local slap bass guru Nigel Clutterbuck (Dare). Loads more, we love bass...
